Building Delivery/Slab - 6/12/2014
Thursday June 12th was an interesting day. I got my in-slab plumbing inspection yesterday so we could finally pour the slab. Well, the building was also being delivered today. I had a Tractor trailer parked in the front yard, a giant forklift tearing up the grass and 6 concrete trucks playing havoc with the end of my driveway. What a ZOO!
There were of course issues with the delivery of the building. The driver couldn't un-strap before we confirmed payment. His paperwork still said COD and the wire transfer didn't show on his clipboard. A half hour of waiting for phone calls and e-mails to merge solved the problem.
The LULL we had on site was an antique. None of the controls were labeled any more so the first two loads were kinda exciting. After Brandon finally got a handle on the controls the left steering cylinder starting peeing hydraulic fluid. I had to run out to the tractor store to get a 5 gal bucket of juice to replentish so he could steer.
The concrete trucks started showing up around 8:30am. There was a gap between the first and second trucks, but after that they had to wait on the road for one to finish before the next could pull in. By the end of the day the trucks had mushed down to where I had laid a 2 inch pvc under the driveway apron. The ground was really soft from recent rains and the dirt in my trench wasn't very well compacted. Those heavy trucks just sunk right in.
There were several other issues through out the day, but each was dealt with with a smile and a threat. I'm gonna sleep good tonight!
Tomorrow we pull the forms and seal the concrete to keep it from staining from all of the red clay. Maybe use the Kubota to pull some of the dirt from around the slab and maybe work on putting a box around the septic pump tank. Monday we start putting steel on slab. YES!
