6/26/2014 - First wall almost done.
Today was a pretty productive day.
Although we only finished the one side, we also went back to correct a bubble that the insulation was creating at the main column. At each of the main columns there is about a foot wide section that is impossible to drive a screw into. Because of the 4" thickness of the insulation it was pushing the sheeting out and there was no way to squash it down against the column. Our solution was to open the sheeting up and remove the thick insulation at the column. Once we buttoned it all back up the bulge was gone.
The second window installation went a lot faster than the frst because we had a clue what we were doing this time. Brandon allowed me to do the torch cutting on the girt and base drip rail, and punch the holes for the tab bolts on the window frame. I had a little trouble with the top holes on one side so we had to use a couple of washers. No biggie, you won't be able to see it, just sloppy torch work on my part. I'm much better with the plasma cutter.
The tops of the windows require that we pre-drill holes for the sheeting screws. Although they are self-tapping screws, 2 layers of red iron is too much for them. All of my bits were burnt out so we sent Mark to Home Depot for a big supply of drill bits. It's amazing how hard a dull drill bit makes a job. With fresh bits, drilling the holes and closing up the top of the windows was a breeze. We still have to caulk, but that will come later.
Tomorrow I want to install BOTH of the windows on the other wall before we even start with the sheeting. That way they are in and done and we can concentrate on sheeting.
