9/1/2014 - Labor Day - Gutters Installed.
I was surprized on Sunday when Steve called to let me know that he would be here on Monday (Labor Day) to install the gutters. I was fine with that.
At 6:30am Steve and one helper rolled into the driveway. They unloaded the ladder and some tools and got right to work. They worked in the garage sorting out the pieces and stripping the plastic protective covering from the metal. What a pain that was. Because they sat in the sun for 6 weeks the plastic was kinda baked on and proved to be quite a pain to remove.
After watching Steve rivet the first end cap into place I realized that we would have NEVER gotten this done right. He made a couple of small cuts and marked a couple of lines for bending tabs down. He knew exactly where to cut, mark and bend to get things to fit right.
Once the four end caps were in place they assembled the end gutter pieces to the bottom rake trim to form a corner piece. Each corner got several rivets and then was sealed with caulk so they wouldn't leak. After all four corners were built they were placed at the corners of the building ready to be installed.
I heard Steve banging on metal so I went out to see what he was doing. He was cutting a downspout hole in the first corner. I asked where he intended to place the downspouts because he was making a hole to put one at the front corner of the building. I only got 3 downspouts for each side so I had him swap the corner he was working on for the opposite corner. I didn't want a downspout right at the front of the building. He agreed. We located a downspout at each rear corner, One on either side of the garage door wall and centered the last one between the corners on each side.
He and his helper worked in the hot sun until 6:30pm before thay finished up. They did an excellent job. I'm really happy with the way things look and we'll see how well they function after the next rain.
